One decade ago, in 2015, UF Dean of Libraries, Judith Russell, achieved an unprecedented and transformational agreement with Cuba’s Biblioteca Nacional de Cuba “José Martí” for the mutual exchange, cataloguing and digital conservation of rare, unique and previously inaccessible documents, newspapers, books and other materials for researchers at the University of Florida and the international community at large. On the heels of a successful consultation with local librarians, we visited the massive national monument honoring José Martí, which was built to commemorate the centennial anniversary of his birth in 1953.
